12 week update

As of today, I'm 12 weeks 4 days pregnant with twins. The 'morning' sickness is gone (YAY) and my appetite has returned in full force. I'm still exhausted in the afternoons, but I can still sneak in naps whenever I need to.
Today, DH and I went for my Nuchal Ultrasound. Both babies are measuring perfectly and heartbeats were both strong. Babies are healthy and no worries about Downs. It was a very good day.

Seeing their little bodies on the screen was just amazing. I have two little people in there! I saw all 4 chambers of their hearts beating - incredible.
Twin A is the girl, Twin B is the boy. Note the hand to the mouth of the girl as she sucks her thumb. Twin B was busy kicking and twisting, he's going to be an active little boy!

I'm feeling a bit more positive about this pregnancy. It was amazing to see those two little people on screen and know that they're alive and well. I know I will never feel 'safe' until they are in my arms, alive, but that's what happens when you've carried a healthy baby to term and she dies in your womb. You never actually think the baby will arrive alive, and every time you go for a check up, the fear of not hearing/seeing the heartbeat is dreadful.
I'm happy today. My babies are alive and well.

And I'm so happy for you!
Ignore anyone who tries to make you feel bad for not enjoying the pregnancy as much as they think you should. Only anyone who has lived through what we have could possibly understand how hard it is to do it all again. Your heart is on the line and you wont relax until both those gorgeous babies are safe in your arms where they belong.
I can't wait for that day for you.
Let me say it again, I am so happy for you.

I am delurking - I read your entire blog a few weeks ago, from start to finish.

I am so sorry for what you have gone through, you sound like a brave and amazing woman.

I am also pregnant with boy/girl twins after three early first trimester losses. I had HORRIFIC morning sickness (hyperemises), was on zofran, and had terrible first trimester anxiety, which has morphed into different anxieties as time has passed. I bought a doppler and that has helped me quite a bit.

All of us have different experiences and there is no cookie cutter way to make it through.

Finally!!! I've been checking your blog daily (at least twice!) for updates Babette, and I am SO overjoyed to read this one! Your wee beans are so perfect! It's hard, but embrace the joy, feel it and know how much you deserve it. One day at a time. That's how we get through it. And with comfort of those who've walked the path before us. Big, big hugs to you Babette. I am thrilled for you and your husband.

What beautiful ultrasound pictures! Congratulations on your twins! I'm so glad you got the reassurance of the NT scan results and, of course, the heart beats. I know just what you mean about visualizing the heart chambers, and how comforting that is. And now, just about to enter trimester number 2!

Hooray!!

Run like a bunny and get Dr. Barbara Luke's book on eating when pg with twins. It's, scientifically, the best advice out there. A colleague who advise the american board of obstetricians on pregnancy nutrition recommends this book.

And HOOOOOOOOORAY!!!!!!!!
